Hey guys still getting a little of the hesitation/surging when driving. When I first crank the lude up and she is cold she runs very good...strong. However after driving a while it starts its surging at low speeds....not bucking just a slight downgrade in acceleration then it picks up at around 4000 and screams. Weird huh, Anyway I have been noticing that when I fill up, I open the tank and the thing sucks a ton of air like I have unleashed a vacumm...Now it seems that after I do this all hesitation goes away. Has anyone else experienced this??? I think it may be that the fuel pump is having a hard time getting fuel from the vacumm??? Any thoughts???? Thanks as always.

Re: Gas Tank
Would you say that the engine 'bogs' a lot when you're not in the throttle? Like when you're just cruising, it will suddenly be like the fuel was cut, and then it will come back to life? But if you go full throttle, everything is fine?
If you're able to have the engine run well at high rpm, it's certainly not the fuel pump, because the engine will be sucking back the most gas when you're going hard. In my case, the problem was the EACV valve (small cylindrical valve mounted horizontally on the front of the intake plenum). I can provide more information if you think your problem is similar.
The gas tank sucking in air is normal as far as I know. All my preludes have done that.

Thanks guido....are we talking about the valve that sits between the intake and the valve cover???? If so it has oil down in it for some reason.....weird....should i replace it?

Re: Gas Tank
but to answer your question yes....after thinking about it that is exactly what it does....normal to moderate acceleration it just bogs slightly...kind of feels like a jump. When I really lay the gas to it it will bog for just a second and then it blows over to redline.

No, I'm referring to the valve in the attached picture. Does your 'lude have one of these?1990whitepreluded wrote:Thanks guido....are we talking about the valve that sits between the intake and the valve cover???? If so it has oil down in it for some reason.....weird....should i replace it?
The valve that sits in the hose between the intake manifold and the valve cover is called the PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation). It will get splashed with oil. You only need to be concerned if the oil is making it through the valve and ending up in your intake. You can check this by looking inside the intake pipe for an oily mess. If this is the case, replace the valve. It's a $5 part from Honda.

haha...the written word can confuse. Thanks man....yes I was referring to the valve that sits between the intake and the valve cover...referring to the physical location of the part. Where the EACV valve plugs up has oil down in the electrical fitting....which seems very weird....im going to remove the part and clean today....maybe that will help. If not is this a part I can pick up at the local auto parts place?

You may be able to get that part from an auto parts store, but more likely you'll have to get it from a Honda dealer or a wrecker.
Before you replace the part though, do try to clean it up and see if things get better. By the way, was your ECU throwing any error codes?
Also, I've heard of some people temporarily fixing there EACV problems by clamping a piece of cereal box cardboard between the EACV valve body and the intake plenum so that it plugs the two holes of the valve and effectively renders it disabled. I've never tested this, but you may want to try it out and see if you get different behavior from the car. If you do, this would be a good indicator that that is indeed where the problem is. If nothing changes, you may want to investigate other options before you go and spend money on the EACV valve as it is not a cheap part.
Be sure to check for codes on your ECU.
