just bought a 91 SI. WAs it god deal?
I just bought a 1 owner 91 prelude for $800. Body is in very decent shape except hood needs replacing. Car is B21 Si, no 4ws, has 220k,(miles) manual with original clutch. Clutch is very firm and has plenty of grab left. Also has power everything and everything works. No leaks from sunroof. Interior is mint .no oil leaks and no valve noise so engine sounds solid. no detonation on 87 gas. owner has all papaprework down to everytime he put fuel in it. have 3 questions, is 31mpg average for light driving usual (which is what I'm getting, Is this normal for clutch to last that long and did I get good deal? I have had and know CRXs from top to bottom and wanted a CRX when I found this Prelude.I dont care to race it or pour 10 grand into making look like a kid's car . I just want to restore it to bone stock and replace the hood. It is absolute joy to drive so I have no plans for power adders. I just want to restore it to OEM. nu2prelude formerly Andrew33

Welcome to the forums.
I'd say that you got a good deal, and yes, clutch packs can last that long when they're not abused. Sounds like a pretty solid lude overall, and I'm glad that you want to restore it. Post up some pictures for us to see. I'm sure there are members here that would love to see what you got.
Good luck with finding a hood. They're actually not that expensive if you can find a new one, otherwise hit up the wreckers to locate one. Hopefully you'll find a good straight one.

I have looked all over your site and have found no way to upload photos here. Probably my bad as I dont use internet much. I am very happy with my lude so far. Recommended timing belt change in 90k, It's at 60K but I am going to change it now anyway. I've had too many broken T/Bs on Hondas and with that engine I bet it would cost alot to rebuild. I had to change my name so that it would let me log in. I don't know why. Tell me how and I will be happy to upload some pics. I had a kid offer me $1500 for it at a gas station yesterday and I said nope. I originally wanted to trade my lude for CRX but now the prelude has grown on me. Besides, I wanted CRX for fun gas saver and this Prelude gets better mileage than CRX SI. Is that normal for 2.1 (2B) to get 31mpg and leak absolutely no oil. Everything I read about my 2B says it is oil hog but mine doesn't leak a drop.

Ludes may be worth less in the states, but as far as I am concerned you got a great deal. That's a pretty clean looking lude. Keep it that way.

Re: just bought a 91 SI. WAs it good deal?
The reason this "lude was so cheap is because my neighbor already had 3 cars and inherited 2 more from his parents that were too old to drive. I remember when he bough that car new and he always had it serviced at the Honda dealership. He mainly used it to drive from FL to NC so the clutch was hardly used. He didn't have room in his driveway so he had to sell it fast. The only problem is the hood is junk. My mechanic looked it over really good and said it was a steal. He used to work for honda repairing cars so he knows what to look for. I saw a Lude in the paper listed in fair condition and they wanted $3400 for it. I originally wanted to trade it for a CRX which I have owned 3 and loved. After 2 weeks with the lude, I understand why this forum is here. The Lude is a blast to drive, eats corners like nothing i have ever driven and the Lude reminds me of a CRX but much beefier. So unless somebody comes at me with a mint CRX SI (not raced or pimped out) I will keep the Lude. By the way, I love this site. I have found a bunch of answers to a bunch of questions about by car my just reading the different posts. I Am still surprised that it doesn't leak oil. Every B2 I read about leaks oil. Mine does not leak or burn a drop.

The car looks great! Pretty clean from what I can tell, and the interior is in good shape.
Do the timing belt and water pump, keep the oil changed, put a shine on that paint and those wheels and tires and you'll have a really good looking Prelude to roll in. Glad you got it, and now you know why Prelude's are so much fun to drive.
At the time, it was considered THE best handling production car on the road. Not an easy title to come by.

Re: just bought a 91 SI. WAs it god deal?
I had my mechanic get in there and look at the T/B and he said it was in excellent shape. Timing was off about 6 degrees so fixing that really woke it up. I will still have the T/B changed shortly, Today I am going to hit the "u pullits" to see if I can find a black hood. Kids love getting Preludes and sacrificing them to the gods of CRX and DX racing. From what I hear there are alot of scrap Preludes in good shape here because of the "import racing scene." Funny thing is, I wanted a CRX for a daily driver but everyone I looked at had an engine swap which told me it was a ragged out race car. The Prelude was a second choice but given it's condition and how it's 1 owner takes care of his cars, I know I made the right choice. AS for the red hood, if I don't find a black one today, I'll get back to you.

Re: just bought a 91 SI. WAs it good deal?
I found a red hood at a U pullit for $30. Needs a little work but nothing major. I will have it black before it goes on the car though. So I will to learn how to do bodywork an paint but It wont hurt me to do some learning. I see so many Hondas especially CRX and DXs with multi colored body parts here. Usually they are used for racing and get harassed by the cops alot. I would rather not be mistaken for a street racer. That is one reason I'm glad that the previous owner just had the exhaust replaced with an original Honda exhaust 6 months ago rather than with a cherry bomb type muffler. I like the factory "duals" as good as any aftermarket type I have seen. This Prelude runs nice and quiet. In fact, the previous owner used nothing but Honda parts which says alot about how it was taken care of before I bought it.
